If you are considering buying Cyberpunk 2077, may have to put a pause on that plan. This is because while the game may be functioning on majority of consoles, the early gameplay videos and screenshots of the game indicate that the game is nothing short of barely playable. However, for those of you who may already own an Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S or a PlayStation 5, you are lucky. As you are/will be in much better position with the game seemingly looking to be much more conducive to play.
What is Cyberpunk 2077 about?
For those unfamiliar with the new game, Cyberpunk 2077 is a first / third-person perspective video game. It is set up in the Night City, an open world that comes with six unique regions to explore. Players take up control of mercenary V who has all the skills required for hacking. And uses all sorts of different machinery as well as is well-trained in using a variety of ranged & melee weapons. It is basically a game where your choices matter and the world feels alive. At least, that’s what the developer promised. And from early views of gameplay and their previous games, the game was supposed to absolutely deliver and it did. However, it seems that while the developers built a rather incredible video game, they ended up focussing too much on next-gen consoles. In turn, they neglected players who are still using the PS4 and Xbox One consoles.
What Is The Drama All About?
Ever since it’s launch at the beginning of December, the game has been met with a whole range of issues and problems. From reports of studio crunch to poorly-handled public relations “jokes”. Some of which have been considered to be offensive in the eyes of many. However, the worst part about it all is the game’s final state upon release. This has done nothing but exacerbate negative public sentiment around the game and primarily its developer, CD Projekt Red.
Now, keep in mind, there’s still a lot of good things that can be said about the game, but even the most positive reviews do not leave out the myriad of bugs and glitches that the game presents. In fact, even after CD Projekt Red implemented a day one update patch to the game, players still reported a number of issues, with Xbox One and PS4 players going through the worst of it. This then raised many questions, as to why the developer even decided to release the game in the first place? Especially after they initially delayed it, claiming that it was actually due to issues pertaining to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game, yet the problems clearly remained after release?!
What Are Some Of The Problems In The Game?
Now that the game has been out in the public eye for sometime now, it’s evident that they were indeed some major faults with the first-party title. Some of these main problems that Cyberpunk 2077’s players have complained are; low frame rates and poor resolution. More issues include; blurry visuals, freezing and glitchy characters, textures and objects popping into view, among many other quality-related issues. However, there is something suspicious about the whole situation.
This is because prior to release most PS4 and Xbox One game reviewers were not allowed to see this final version of the game. As the developer only released the PC codes to reviewers. So every game that was reviewed was at the time, the most stable build. And while it’s not bad to want to put your best foot forward in such cases, there is something wrong with purposeful hiding the unstable version. And then releasing it to the game’s eight million concurrent players upon debut.
But then again, we also have to take into account the fact that it can be quite difficult for such an advanced game to function well on old hardware. And Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most ambitious game’s of the past decade. So, a few issues were to be expected, but it’s just nobody expected it to be this bad. As such, it is understandable why lot of players worldwide are upset about the whole situation. After all, if you spent $60 on game, wouldn’t you be upset too? Moreover, it’s insane to think that the company recently announced that it had sold approximately 13 million copies of the game, as of the end of last year.
What did CD Projekt Red Have To Say About It?
What we can all agree is that Cyberpunk 2077 should not have released in this state. Especially when the game’s developers CD Projekt Red, had the option to simply delay its release again. At least, until the game was full operational. Which raises the question; why didn’t they just take their time with it? Perhaps, it’s possible they just felt pressured to release it before the end of the year. But if that is the case, then it’s backfired completely. What’s more it has turned into a massive PR nightmare for CD Projekt Red. In fact, the developer is currently facing with a potentially long line of lawsuits to deal with the problem. And frankly, it’s hard to see how they intend to justify the whole mess.
The only good news for Cyberpunk 2077 PS4 and Xbox One players is that the developer has assured players that new update fixes are already on their way. Most especially for Sony and Microsoft’s old machines as stated in the tweet above. However, as of now, only players who actually managed to get their hands on the next-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles are actually able to fully enjoy the game, as it was initially intended to.
