For some people, reading 26 books a year is nothing, while for some watching 26 movies a year is easier, and there are others who are just too busy to grab a book and read. I want to believe that you’ve done the no-brainer maths after reading the title: If you’re to read 26 books a year, that would equal one book every two weeks.
Yes, you’re correct. This might be easy for the voracious readers. But have you been able to do it yourself?
How can you read 26 books a year?
Well, that’s what I’m going to share with you.
It’s not rocket science.
You do not need to be a fast reader to achieve it. You only need a system to accomplish this.
I understand that setting a challenging, unrealistic reading goal can discourage people. People feel like it will make them quite early.
How you will never know if you can read one book in one week except you start doing it, so why not give it a try?
The worst that happens is you will not meet your goal. That could still be better. Let’s assume you try to read a book every seven days and end up reading one every two weeks. That’s still 26 books in a whole year, more than you probably thought you could complete.
Even if you read 20 books or 15 books in one year, you are still reading much more than the ordinary person.

How can I read 26 books a year
Read from the e-book reader.
I love physical copies of books, but owning an extensive selection of books on my phone makes it so easy. I can read at any place at any moment as long as I have my phone with me. You can have many books all in one place: your phone. Unlike the usual hard copy books which limits the amount of books you can take everywhere with you at a time, using an e-book reader on your phone helps you manage everything all in one place.
Use public transport for the commute.
Every day I use public transport to commute. It takes 20 minutes on the train. So I spend my time reading some novels.
Every day I am utilizing my 40 minutes of the day in reading my book. Whenever I read, time flies. I don’t mind waiting time, because there is always something to read.
Whenever I go to meet someone, and they are late, I never get angry with them. Sometimes I wish they would be late by ten more minutes, especially when there is an emotional scene.
Start a Goodreads reading challenge.
Have you ever used Goodreads?
If your answer is no, then you should sign-up there now.
Goodreads is a platform for books to read or share the reviews and recommendations for the book. That’s not all. You can also start your own goodreads book reading challenge.
For me, having a reading challenge on goodreads is an essential part of my life. I can track how many books I have read.
It also has a widget with amazon kindle where you can re-read notes and highlights you have taken from kindle. It encourages me to read more.
You can cut back on TV and movies.
It is a tough one for some of us. I also love binge-watching a great show as much as any other average person. But I pushed myself to prioritize the book reading.
If I’m sitting in front of my television, it’s because I need to watch something important. If I’m finding it difficult, I simply count to three and arise to the task immediately
You should know how long your goal will take.
Yes, I am a slow reader. I know that I read about 120 words a minute, give or take.
Business or health books requiring highlighting or note-taking can be slower, and the rare novel can be quicker.
If an average book is 50,000 words, I can read one book in a little over eight. So I need more than 32 hours in a week to read a minimum of four books.
There are many genres which you may have more interest, i.e. short stories, poems, fiction or non-fiction novels.
You can split your yearly goal into monthly chunks.
You can’t hit a massive goal by doing it all at once.
You’ve just got to split it down. To read 26 books or any number of books a year, I need to read one book every two weeks.
If I stick to this average, I’ve got my yearly goal reached. Some weeks I won’t hit this, but some I will beat it.
It will help if you wake up earlier on weekends.
Sure, use your weekends to socialize, rest, and relax, but try to rise a bit earlier. Even 60 minutes will make a difference if you utilize the time for reading.

You can read various books at once.
Reading various books simultaneously (my Kindle App enables me to do this quickly).
I never feel tired with one book. I can always change back and forth to whatever is best in a given situation.
If I have 5 minutes waiting in a queue, it’s easier for me to read a novel than get through another page in a health or business book, for example. If I’m reading in before bedtime at night, I favour non-fiction to help me to sleep. I choose different books on different moments.
I always have a book that will serve in a given situation.
Conclusion: Always be greedy for reading.
These are just opinions. Everyone’s arrangement will likely be different.
The most significant thing is to make it so that books are always available and daily reading becomes a way of life.
After using the systems introduced above, You can read total number of books in 52 weeks is 26. You will be so grateful for the experience and will start pushing yourself to beat 52 books next year or who knows you may read 100 books a year in future.
So how many books do you want to read this year? Please share you thought in the comment section below.
